Musical Instruments
Musical Instruments
Purpose:
After my first day in the infant room, I noticed that the children really enjoyed
the sensory tubes that made noise, similar to rain sticks. With this observation, I
decide to bring in musical instruments created of infant use.
Name:
Musical Instruments
Objectives:
1) Imitation (1.2): Children will learn the functions of the instrument by watching
and imitating their teachers (Excerpts from ELECT, 2014, p.18).
2) Non-Verbal Communication Skills - Referencing (3.1): Children will improve
their referencing skills as they check with their teachers to ensure they are using
the instrument properly (Excerpts from ELECT, 2014, p.20).
Materials:
-5 Musical Shakers
-2 Tambourine Drums
Implementation:
-This activity will be set up on the carpeted area while some of the children are
participating in an art activity. This will allow only a few children who have
interest to participate at a time.
-Ms. Emma will place all the instruments onto the carpet in front of her.
-MS. Emma will shake, rattle, and hit the instruments while inviting children to
try them out.
-When a child comes to the instruments to play, Ms. Emma will model how to
use each instrument.
-The activity will conclude when the children lose interest or when it is time to
transition from program to lunch time.
Teaching Strategies:
Modelling: Children learn by imitating others. For this activity, Ms. Emma will
model how each of the instruments is played.
Behaviour Reflections: As the children play the instruments, Ms. Emma will
verbally repeat the action they are doing. Example: Are you shaking the rattle?
Shake, shake, shake!
