Delaware County has many strengths that make is a great place to live, work, and grow.

However, it also has aspects that are important to be addressed. The community health status

assessment plays a critical role in collecting data of the community to quantitatively provide

direction of the state of health. Using this information and tracking yearly collections offers a

powerful tool for Delaware General Health Department to see patterns, trends, and prepare for

the direction of health deterrents.

Yearly, the county receives many accolades for various categories such as best place to

live, most young people making over $100,000, and state top-ranking fitness, as examples due to

its seat, Delaware. Delaware County is far below state and national levels in crime and poverty.

Primary care physicians are plentiful with far less patients per, many times less. than the national

average. The county is exceptionally educated and produces far more graduates and post-

graduates then state of national averages. These factors play large roles in the safety of the

community and results in the explosive growth that has been recorded over the past two decades.

As is the unfortunate state of the nation, one of the greatest weaknesses of the county in

in poor health behaviors. This is exceptionally concerning as many of the cities, villages, and

towns within the county are ranked as healthier than the state average and even within the top 10.

This implies that many areas of the county are far less healthy than the data suggests of the

mean. Delaware County has higher percentages in all categories of legal substance abuse

(smoking and drinking), eating habits, and activity. This is heavily reflected in addressing

challenges, opportunities, and the creation of committees and sub-committees.

While the committee was focused on including many prominent aspects of the

community, the FOCA sub-committee is designed with a specific focus in mind- to address the

target concerns. The primary focus will be health behaviors, sexual health, and healthcare

availability. The American Red Cross is an exceptional organization that offers education and

medical programs to the community. The Salvation Army specifically has a division focused on

sex-trade and human trafficking. The Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce is an important

team member in understanding the needed resources to run programs. OhioHealth offers medical

expertise, patient-caregiver needs, is deeply ingrained and invested in the community, and has

been a strong source of health education historically. The Delaware County Sheriffs Office is

important due to how involved in the community it is as well as to integrate a voice for

emergency services and legal programs available. Community Action Partnership is a not for

profit built around program design and implementation.
