Plate Tectonics

1. Crust: the thin and solid outermost layer of the Earth above the
mantle

2. Mantle: the layer of rock between the Earths crust and core

3. Core: the central part of the Earth below the mantle

4. Inner Core: solid, dense center of our planet that extends from the
bottom of the outer core to the center of the Earth

5. Outer Core: liquid layer of the Earths core that lies beneath the
mantle and surrounds the inner core

6. Convergent Boundary: the boundary formed by the collision of two

lithosphere

7. Divergent Boundary: the boundary between two tectonic plates that

are moving away from each other

8. Transform Boundary: the boundary between tectonic plates that are

sliding past each other horizontally

9. Continental Plate: a block of lithosphere that consists of the crust

and the rigid outermost part of the mantle

10. Oceanic Plate: a block of the Earths crust that is made up of the
sea floor, more dense and rocky than the continental plate

11. Density: how close together molecules of a substance are; how

compacted something is

12. Faults: large cracks in the Earths crust
