Badminton Unit Plan Ri Baker
Badminton Unit Plan Ri Baker
Physical activity needs to be gear in a fun and enjoyable manner for students
to be motivated and excited about what you are teaching. If a student perceives a
particular activity not enjoyable they will not want to participate. I believe a big part
of this is have students learn through games but there comes a point where specific
skills need to be polished through particular technical drills. I want to try and
disguise these technique drill based classes in small mini games where students are
actively working on their skill but receiving more enjoyment out of the process.
Students acquire skills throws games and social interaction with each other.
Students will be assessed a total of 3 times over the period of 5 classes. The
first classes students will fill out a survey where they record their own perceive skill
level and aspects of badminton that they would like to improve on. Secondly,
students will be graded on a skills competition involving serves and a variety of
other skills. Finally, students will be assessed in a summative tournament where
things like etiquette, rule knowledge and skill will be evaluated.
Classroom Management
As soon as kids come into the gym I will have a single birdie set up on each
court, as students role into the gym I will take there attendance and they will be
permitted to rally until everyone has arrived to the class. Establishing this routine
will give students more time to play, something constructive to engage in, and help
with my classroom management. Student will then know that once everyone is
attended for to take the appropriate actions to perform the warm up for that day. By
establishing this routine students will have a tentative guide for the first 10 minutes
of the class.
I will incorporate music into the warm-up when applicable to help foster a fun
atmosphere that students are engaged in. All songs will be appropriate for the
classroom and perhaps even themed like a Throwback Thursday or Top 40 Hits.
At the beginning of the class I will go over the tentative schedule I have
created. Having students know a basic idea of what is going to happen in the class
will allow them to process what is going to happen and help create smoother
transitions.
At the beginning of the unit students will fill out a personal survey on what
types of activities they enjoy, this will allow my self to get a better understanding of
the student. From the survey I will be able to establish if any students participate in
other sports where I can go and watch. To ensure I foster positive relationships with
my students Ill take time at the beginning of every class to ask how they are and
take interest in their personal lives.
