Lab 3-10: Adding Users, Groups, and Roles

Activity Objective
In this lab, will creating User Groups in the VSOM application and assigning roles to individual users through their groups.

Task 1: Adding Group and Roles

Activity Procedure

Complete these steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer and connect to the VSOM at https://192.168.1.X/VSOM.

2. If you see a security warning, accept the warning and continue to the login page.

3. Click the Users tab.

4. We are now going to create two User Groups, one for East and one for W est. Click the User Groups icon [ ].

5. Click Add and enter the following information:

a. Name: Mn2 Operators User Group

b. Location: HQ > Mn2

c. Role: Select operator_role then click OK.

d. Leave the rest of the options at the defaults and click Create.

6. The group information should match Figure 1 below.

8. Click Add and enter the following information:

a. Name: Mn1 Operators User Group

b. Location: HQ > Mn1

c. Role: Select operator_role then click OK.

 d. Leave the rest of the options at the defaults and click Create.

Task 2: Adding User

1. Next, we will create two users for the VSOM system. Click the Users icon [ ].

2. Click Add and enter the following information:

a. Username: mn2_operator1
b. First Name: Mn2_XY
c. Last Name: Operator
d. Password: Cisco123
e. Confirm Password: Cisco123
f. Under User Groups, click Add and choose Mn2 Operators Group, then click OK.
g. Click Create.

3. Click Add and enter the following information:

a. Username: mn1_operator1
b. First Name: Mn1_YX
c. Last Name: Operator
d. Password: Cisco123
e. Confirm Password: Cisco123
f. Under User Groups, click Add and choose Mn1 Operators Group, then click OK.
g. Click Create.

12. The Mn1 Operator 1 user will only have access to the Mn1 resources (buildings and cameras) and the Mn2
Operator 1 user will only have access to the Mn2 resources. Log out of the admin account and log in as either
mn2_operator1 or mn1_operator1 to confirm this.
