r lalith navarathna mlai pathigam
(introduction)
(The poetical 9-jeweled adornment of goddess r lalith)

By Sri Skandas Warrior of Light

r lalith navarathna mlai pathigam is beautiful and very moving song composed by bhagavan
r skanda on Goddess Lalithaa Ambikai at Thiru-meeya-chur it was then given as part of
upadesam to r agasthya munivar swmigal. Nava- means nine and Ratna denotes jewels
and Maalai means necklace. This composition describes the blessings of Devi via the
characteristics of the navaratnas (vairam, neelam, muthu, pavalam, mnikkam, maragadham,
kmdhagam, padhumargam, vaidooriyam). Sri Skanda composed this song into a 9-jewelled
necklace & garland to adorn his beautiful and compassionate and ever-loving Mother - Goddess
Lalitha.

Note by Sri P.R. Ramachander

This is a very moving prayer to Goddess Lalitha. It is divided in to nine sections and each sections
gets its name from one of the nine precious gems. Though in some of the stanzas, the name of the
gem occurs, in others, the name of the gem is not used as its name but is split in to two and while
singing, you will hear the name of the gem.
