OPERA BUFFA
Marriage of Figaro - is an opera buffa (comic opera) in four acts composed in
1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with an Italian libretto written
by Lorenzo Da Ponte. It tells how the servants Figaro and Susanna succeed
in getting married, foiling the efforts of their philandering employer Count
Almaviva to seduce Susanna and teaching him a lesson in fidelity.
Cosi fan Tutte - is an Italian-language opera buffa in two acts by Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart. The title, Cos fan tutte, literally means "Thus do all
[women]" but is usually translated into English as "Women are like that".
La finta semplice - is an opera buffa in three acts for seven voices and
orchestra, composed in 1768 by then 12-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The opera was recorded in its entirety by Leopold Hager for Orfeo in January
1983 with Helen Donath and Teresa Berganza, a performance lasting two
hours 45 minutes. Another recording was made in November 1989.
OPERA SERIA
Ariodante - is an opera seria in three acts by George Frideric Handel. Like
Handel's other works in the opera seria genre, Ariodante, despite its initial
success, fell into oblivion for nearly two hundred years. An edition of the
score was published in the early 1960s, from the Hallische Hndel-Ausgabe.
La clemenza di Tito - is an opera seria in two acts composed by Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart to an Italian libretto by Caterino Mazzol, after Metastasio.
It was started after the bulk of Die Zauberflte (The Magic Flute), the last
opera that Mozart worked on, was already written. The work premiered on 6
September 1791 at the Estates Theatre in Prague.
Ideomeneo - is an Italian language opera seria by Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart. Mozart and Varesco were commissioned in 1780 by Karl Theodor,
Elector of Bavaria for a court carnival.
