Diaper saves infants life

By: Ashley OBerry, February 29, 2017

COLLEGE PARK, Md.--Two robbers broke into a small home containing Grace Ford, 20, her
younger sister,16, and a 10-month-old infant last night at 11:30 pm in the Riverview section of
College Park.

The two women were watching the evening news while the infant was in the playpen. The
robbers entered through the unlocked front door and demanded money or jewelry. They forced
the two women through the house and collected valuables. Ford estimated the total worth of the
stolen items to be about $5,000.

When they returned to the living room, Fords dog began to bark. One suspect fired three shots
but missed the dog.

Ford screamed and picked up the infant when she began crying. The infant was not hurt, but it
was a close call. Ford discovered there was a bullet lodged in the diaper.

The diapers were extra thick. There was about an inch left to the diaper that it didnt pierce,
Ford stated.

When I heard the shots and the baby, I ran to the window, a neighbor said.

The neighbor called the police and reported that the two men headed toward the cemetery, got
into a car, and sped off but were unable to see the color or model of the car.

The deputy said police are still looking for the suspects. They are described as white, 18- to 20-
years old, of medium height and weight. One was wearing a ski mask and jogging pants with
UMD on the side of the leg. The other was also masked and wore a white shirt and baseball
cap.
