BACKHOE-a backhoe is used to dig a trench,

uproot a tree, grade a road, push dirt and plow snow

on some countries.

ROAD GRADER- a road grader is used to create a flat,

level surface for the construction of new roads and leveling
uneven grounds. It is also used as a means of finishing the
grade started by other construction equipment like
bulldozers.

ROAD ROLLER
Types of Road Rollers:

Sheepsfoot Roller- this type consists of a drum having

many round or rectangular
shaped protrusions or feet on it. These rollers are
also called tamping rollers

Pneumatic Tyred Rollers- These rollers are used for

compaction of coarse grained soils with some fines.
These rollers are least suitable for uniform coarse soils
and rocks. Generally pneumatic tyred rollers are used in
pavement subgrade works both earthwork and
bituminous works.
Grid Roller- Grid rollers are used for compaction of
weathered rocks, well graded coarse soils. These rollers
are not suitable for clayey soils, silty clays and uniform
soils. The main use of this rollers are in subgrade and sub-
base in road constructions. `

Pad Foot / Tamping Rollers- These rollers are

similar to sheepsfoot rollers with lugs of larger
area than sheepsfoot rollers.

Smooth Wheeled Roller- Smooth wheel rollers

are most suitable for consolidating stone soling,
gravel, sand, hard core, ballast and surface
dressings. Not suitable for consolidating
embankments and soft sub-grades, but are better
suited than any other plant for compacting silty and
sandy soils and with fewer passes. When the
moisture content is a little more than optimum it
will compact more easily.

fixture at any major construction site. The
construction crew uses the tower crane to lift steel,
concrete, large tools like acetylene torches and
generators, and a wide variety of other building
materials.

MOBILE CRANE- designed to easily transport

to a site and use with different types of load and
cargo with little or no setup or assembly. A mobile
crane can be a very simple machine with just a
telescopic boom on its platform, or a full sized crane
equipped with various attachments. The standard
cranes are machines used for lifting big and heavy
sized objects. They are equipped with chains, wire
ropes, drums and control panels.

PLATE COMPACTOR- A plate compactor is an

indispensable piece of construction equipment that
is used to compress different types of soil and
gravel, the core is a flat and heavy plate which is
driven or vibrated up and down with either gasoline
or diesel powered engine.
TAMPING RAMMER- A rammer is a machine
that compact the ground. How it does this is
different from a plate compactor. Instead of using

removal of the form work.
