NAME: Roger Turner (Mr.

Turner)
Lesson Title: Solving Equations with one Unknown

Grade Level: 8th Grade

Subject: Mathematics
Description of Learning Goals, Standards, Objectives
CC/GPSs: CC/GPS:CC8.G.1 Students will use Khan Academy app to master
solving equations with one unknown. Students must use student login
provided by instructor. This will allow the instructor to monitor the
students activities while they are using the app. Students will watch
videos tutorials and score 80% to show mastery of the lesson.
National Technology 3c. Students curate information from digital resources using a variety of
Standards: tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that demonstrate
meaningful connections and conclusions.
3d. Students build knowledge by actively exploring real world issues
and problems, developing ideas and theories and pursuing answers and
solutions.
Long-Term Learning At the end of this lesson students will understand how to solve
Goal or Outcome: equations with one unknown variable efficiently.

ABCD Objectives or Students will be able to solve equations missing one variable based on
Outcomes: the remaining values in the equations.
Students will be able to show mastery of solving equations missing one
variable by scoring 80% or higher on Khan Academy test at the end of
the lesson.
Description of Assessment
Assessment Plan: Students will show mastery by scoring at least 80% on the Khan
Academy test at the end of the lesson.
Students will also show mastery by an oral test given by the instructor at
the end of the week on Friday.
Students will also unlock the mastery test by acquiring energy points
from Khan Academy to prove that they have mastered solving equations
with one unknown variable.
Description of Activities with Technology and Materials
Activity Design:
Students will use Khan Academy app with the
provided login. Once the students access Khan
Class starter and lesson connection: Academy they are to click on 8th grade math.
After that they must click on solving equations
with one unknown. Once students clicks topic
they must watch the provided tutorials on the
subject matter, and score 80% or higher on the
test at the end of the lesson.
As the instructor I will motivate them to learn by
giving them the opportunity to learn at their own
pace. The Khan Academy App gives them an
Teacher and student activities: infinite number of opportunities to prove they
understand the lesson. This will motivate the
students to take advantage of the opportunity to
work at their own pace.
I will relate this lesson to the past algebra
lessons I have taught to the class. This will give
them a head start in understanding how to solve
equations missing one variable.
As an instructor I will get the students engaged
by offering a reward to the team who scores the
highest on the jeopardy review game I have
created. This will give students that competitive
edge to master the lesson.
Technology Connection: I will provide direct instruction to students if they
need it. This will help the students understand
the lesson.
I will not facilitate the lesson; however, I will
introduce the lesson, and then let Khan Academy
teach the lesson to the students.
Students will work independently on the Khan
Academy App; however, if they wish to go
through the lessons together they can. Also they
would work in groups while playing the Jeopardy
review game in the classroom.
I prefer to use the competitive strategy to
encourage students to learn the lesson. I will use
the jeopardy review game to incorporate a
reward to the team who showed complete
mastery of the lesson.
There are several technologies that will support
this lesson including computers, promethean
Materials and Resources: boards, and the Khan Academy App.

Reflection on Lesson Design

Future Actions : I incorporated the CC/ Performance and
technology standards in this lesson plan. I used
the handout on Meaningful Learning and Design
Concepts to help me include words that make
the lesson more understandable and specific.
After this lesson plan I will look up ways to make
a more efficient lesson plan. I would also include
more words from the handout to ensure the
lesson plan is specific and understandable by me
and other instructors who may want to use the
lesson plan.

If I had more resources I would make the lesson

plan more precise and specific.

My technology have a great impact on my design

because it allows me to give the students the
option to learn at their own pace. It also helps me
map out my classroom lessons accordingly.

My technology artifact require the students use of

higher thinking by using words that students will
have to infer to get the meaning.
My technology is used by giving students the
opportunity to use computers to help them
master solving equations with one unknown
variable.
