Pompeii

Pompeii was an ancient Roman town city.

The ancient city of Pompeii was not
discovered until 1748. Mount Vesuvius is
the only volcano in Europe. Over 3 million
people live next to Mount
Vesuvius. Mount Vesuvius
eruption, in 79 AD lasted 24
hours. The lava arrived to four
cities: Pompeii, Stabiae,
Oplontisand and Herculaneum. The
estimate of how many people died is
25,000 people. The site was lost for almost
1,500 years and rediscovered in 1,599.
They found a lot of bodies and ancient
objects covered in ashes under the ground.
The ruins of Pompeii are visited by over 2.6
people per year.
