In our 3 grade class, we begin teaching place value, comparing & ordering numbers, standard,
expanded, & word form, & rounding at the very beginning of the year. This unit (3NBT.1,.2,&.3)
nd
reviews many of the standards students were taught in 2 grade. Most of this is just building on
what they should already know. This packet was created with enough material to cover a week of
rounding to 10 and a week of rounding to 100.

In my classroom, I use the practice pages for independent work Monday-Thursday and the
interactive notebook pages during our enrichment station. On Friday, (we have dubbed it Fun
Friday) we use task cards, vocabulary, and mathtivity for fun during our enrichment station.

We follow the T.I.M.E station structure in our class. I begin our math lessons with approximately 20
minutes of instruction, where I model and often use media to support my teaching (youtube has
some awesome songs and videos). On Fridays, we usually play a smartboard game (listed on next
pages). Then the students go to their T.I.M.E. stations after instruction time. Here is what our
stations for a week typically look like:

On Friday, sometimes Ill give up the teacher station if extra time is needed to complete
assessments. As you can see, this model is very structured, but at the same time, allows a good
deal of flexibility, as well. Of course, if extra time is needed to master a concept instead of
assessing on Friday, there would be an assigned practice page.
