Crankshaft Main Bearings - Maintenance Interval
Crankshaft Main Bearings - Maintenance Interval
Service Bulletin
Types | 6 C and E
Subject | Crankshaft Main Bearings Maintenance Interval
GE Jenbacher continuously endeavours to increase the service lifetimes of our engine components through further
development and use of latest technologies. Sputter-design crankshaft main bearings have consequently been
employed for some time. As a result, service lifetimes of 40,000 ophs were achieved despite continuous increase of
load.
(Note: In natural gas applications the lifetime is indicated at 30,000 ophs because of the Minor Overhaul scheduled
here)
As experience has now shown wear and consequently the service life of the main bearings greatly depends on the
number of engine starts performed. To maintain the high product quality of our type 6 enigines, the maintenance
interval of crankshaft main bearings has now been tied to the number of engine starts performed in the current
maintenance schedule for type 6 engines and the applicable maintenance work W 8050 M6.
Consequently the following applies to type 6 engines (versions C and E) with sputter bearings retroactively with
immediate effect:
At 30,000 ophs or maximum 4,000 engine starts reached the main bearings must be replaced completely.
At 20,000 ophs or maximum 3,000 engine starts reached the main bearings must be replaced completely.
Should the number of engine starts be reached before the number of operating hours the crankshaft main
bearings must be replaced!
