Rationale/ This is relevant because the UN does work all over the world and works with the
Purpose for United States government.
Lesson:
Learning Students will be able to summarize and analyze what the UN does.
Outcomes: Students will be able to identify and describe the six bodies within the UN, their
work on protecting human rights, and the four major accomplishments discussed
in the reading.
Students will be able to assess the qualities necessary to work in the UN.
Content Standards
Addressed USG-1.2: Analyze components of government and the governing process,
including politics, power, authority, sovereignty, legitimacy, public institutions,
efficacy, and civic life.

The UN activity will be used as a formative assessment to check for understanding about the
UN.
Adaptations/Extensions
I could modify my lesson for a range of diverse learners by having them create a PSA about the
important things the UN does.
