LOG Interpretation Review

From the productive zone, we will calculate

water saturation

Sw = sqrt (Ro/Rt)

Rt= Formaion True Resistivity is the reading from the

deep induction curve in the zone of interest (Target
Zone)
Ro=Reading from deep induction in a clean non-
shaley formation fully saturated with water
Rt=30 (zone 1)
Rt=2 (zone 2)

Ro=0.3

Sw = Sqrt (Ro/Rt)

Zone 1: Sw=10%

Zone 2: Sw=39%
The next step to evaluate this log is to determine the porosity
of the zone of interest (the zone that we found to have HCs)
Dt-Dtm
f = -----------------
Dtliq-Dtm

Where Dtliqand Dtm are transit time in the pore liquid and rock matrix, respectively.
The sonic log investigation is limited to the invaded zone. The mixture of liquids in
the rock pores is usually assumed to have a transit travel time, Dtliq of 189 s/ft.
Selection of the matrix level time, Dtm, is based upon the knowledge of the
lithology of the section logged. Commonly used Dtm values are as follows:

Sandstones 55.5 or 51.0 ms/ft

Limestone 47.5 ms/ft
Dolomites 43.5 ms/ft
