Population Trends in The Staunton-Waynesboro MSA
While population numbers have continued to climb in Waynesboro since 1980, gains
have been small (an average increase of 176 people per year). During this same
stretch, Staunton has grown even more slowly, while Augusta County has added
more than 20,000 residents. (Both Waynesboro and Augusta County grew at a
similar rate (roughly 40%) from 1980 to 2015.

In more recent years, since the boom of the mid-2000s, while the city lost jobs at a
slower rate than either Staunton or Augusta County, the citys average wage grew
more slowly increasing by just $1,637 (or 5.1% between 2007 and 2014)
compared to a $2,127 increase in Staunton and a $5,743 increase in Augusta
County.
