activity in which I allowed the children to paint the cardboard
for the quiet loft.

chosen these strategies? Implementation:
1. I cut the cardboard into two large pieces, just big
enough that two-three children could work on one piece.
2. I set the tarp on the ground to allow more movement to
paint as painting on the table would restrict their
movement and the amount of children able to participate
in the experience.
3. I placed the paint jugs on the corners of the cardboard to
stabilize them so that it wouldnt tip over or fall over or
on the children while they were painting.
4. I set out two large platters with various colors of paint in
the middle of the tarp.
5. I scattered various brushes and paint rollers to allow
children to choose their preferred brush.
6. I instructed the children to put on art smocks before we
could start the activity.
7. I allowed four children to paint at a time since many of
the children wanted to participate.
8. Children painted the cardboard and once they were
finished, I set it aside to dry.
9. When one side finished drying, I created a
space/galaxy montage with stars, a moon, the sun and
the black background as a calming aspect of the roof
that they would see when they looked up.
2 Teaching Strategies:
1. Questions: I will use questions to help extend and
enhance the childrens learning throughout this
experience such as:
- Which paint brush are you using?
- What are you painting?
- What colors did you mix?
- Why and how did that color happen?

2. Sensory Engagement: The children learn best when they

have hands-on experience and really take part in a
creative activity. Allowing the children to paint the
cardboard instead of me gives them a sense of
accomplishment and pride when they see it displayed in
the quiet loft for them to see. It is also important to use
this strategy as it creates time for the children to interact
with one another and communicate.

This activity was a spontaneous one as it was initially meant to

be an administrative task for me to complete alone. However, as
the children observed me implementing this activity/experience,
they took the initiative to take part in it as they wanted to help
and be a part of the process. That being said, I took the

In the future, I would like to create a more effective way to
stabilize the cardboard so that the children could paint without
having the cardboard fall on them. I would also like to make it
more creative by allowing the children to access more supplies
or materials.
