PowerPoint Presentation Reflection: Express Assignment II

For the selection of PowerPoint presentation, I have chosen Express Assignment II from

Dr. Karen Colemans Leadership in Higher Education class. The program learning outcome that

most directly aligns with this artifact, I believe is reflective leadership.

I chose this artifact to represent reflective leadership as this assignment gives insight to

evolution of my leadership philosophy over the course of a semester. This culminating

assignment can explain and attest to my understanding of leadership theories, ethics, and

constructs and their application in higher education settings. Furthermore, I believe it attests to

my understanding of, and ability to reflect critically on, historical and contemporary issues with

higher education. In class, the ideology of leadership being referred to as an industry, but also

an American product was hard for me to digest. At this point in my masters program we had

dismantled meritocracy, analyzed oppression and privilege and assessed our own identities. It

reminded me that historically power and privilege tend to always go hand in hand. Historically,

leadership as an American product, was no different. However, because reflective leadership

calls for social change, it is my role as a change agent, to commit to fostering equity, a voice for

diversity and learning that is socially just and responsible.

The PowerPoint also discusses social justice and ethics in leadership as well as how I

believe it will translate to practice, which is how I relate these issues of leadership and

professional practice. I have made it a point to not be complicit, embrace my relationship with

students by creating social support, cultivating self-efficacy and fostering self-empowerment.

Through the course and assignment, I believe I have shown the development of attitudes and

skills related to life-long learning, including the ability to critically self-assess and analyze

personal and professional strengths and weaknesses.
