Animal Exploration around the world http://www.waza.org/en/zoo/select-a-

region

Science

5th grade

The students will understand food chains and classification of the animal
kingdom.

45 min

The students will access the website and pick and continent. They will
need to pick out 3 mammals, 3 fish, 3 reptiles, and 3 birds. They need
to list the class, genus, and species of each animal. Then they will need
to create a food chain using at least 5 of the animals and explain why
they put the animals in that order.

The assessment will be based off the accuracy and the complexity of the
food chain.

Without technology, the students would not be able to look at all the
animals from different continents. With the use of the website, it allows
students to explore animals other than the ones they see on a regular
basis.
