Analysis of Problem

Why is the high school graduation rate in Florida 74.5 percent while the rate in Virginia

82 percent? Virginia is also the location of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science

and Technology and George Mason High School, two of the top high schools within our

nation. Those schools are also where the children of our nations government officials

and Virginias professional and successful working force of many fields attend. In

Florida, the majority of parents are not qualified for these fields because of the

distinguished regional job markets, so it seems unfair to compare the two educational

systems because why should the parents in Florida bother being ambitious in their

education for unavailable careers? And, why should the children?

According to a Louisiana State University survey, relocating firms prefer quality public

schools to favorable corporate tax rates, tax exemptions and government incentives.

Corporate leaders who offer high-paying high-tech jobs will never want to expand their

company to our state because they deem Floridian students unqualified and

unemployable; thus, it is imperative for our state governor to recognize it is far more

worthwhile doubling down on investments in education.

Further, in other cases, students may prioritize their academics, but their professors

teaching plans are not as challenging as it should be. In consequence, the lack of effort

required to attain stellar grades will cause the students enthusiasm for their education to

eventually fade overtime.

It seems as if schools are more focused on receiving high statistics for the number of their

students scoring high on the FCAT and high school graduates that they are willing to

bend the educational system to look good on paper. Florida high schools also have a

tendency to omit students who transferred to adult-education programs typically

students with weak academic records in danger of dropping out, so it appears they have

never been enrolled, and the rate for students who earned a standard diploma within four

years would seem higher than it really is.
