Importing a Catia file into SolidWorks

Step 1: Install Adobe 9 Pro Extended.

Ive put the installation files in J:\Engineering\software\adobe_downloads\
Use the free 30 day trial. If this doesnt work , You can get a free 30 day trial off the
internet (www.adobe.com).

Step 2: Open Adobe 9 Pro Extended.

It should look like this.

Step 3: Open the catia file in this workspace.

File -> Open Then navigate to the file. Ensure all files (*.*) is selected.

Step 4: Choose the import option Data Exchange

Use the drop menu in the screen that appears. Leave all else to default. Data Exchange
imports the file with the best resolution which will enable us to use the data later.
Step 5: File is open, save it as a parasolid.
Now the file is open, it should look like this.

Right-click in the background, and choose Export data which will enable a Save as
interface. Save the file in the parasolid type (.x_t). According to Javelin, parasolids
have the best import algorithm in SolidWorks, thus reducing the risk of translation errors.

Step 6: Open the parasolid in SolidWorks.

Open SolidWorks as normal, and open the parasolid file youve just finished creating.
There are no options, so dont worry. Use as normal. The colors will need to be updated.
