There have been nearly two runway excursions per month in 2016

Academy had a booth and
offered a training session on
Runway Excursions at the
North Texas Business Aviation
Association Safety Show-Down
in Addison, TX. With over 200
attendees, the event continues
to be one of the top regional
events in the country.
A unique social event was held
at TopGolf. Advanced Aircrew
Academy sponsored one of the
18 holes where participants
took on challenges like
swinging the club with their
non-dominant hand. Each ball
has a computer microchip that
tracks each shots accuracy and
distance while awarding points.

Meet Jared VanLue, module developer for Security, CFIT, and Upset/Loss of Control
You recently made some
changes to the Controlled
Flight Into Terrain eLearning
module. What should
everyone know about the
changes you made? I recently
made several changes to the
module to improve its
appearance including:
Revamped TAWS/EGPWS
video pages, a reformatting of
some of the Departure
Procedure pages, and the
addition of an NTSB case
analysis of the UPS crash at
BHM. That case analysis
includes a video produced by
the NTSB (which is the first
time that organization has ever
created a video describing an
accident) which describes many
of the factors involved in that
CFIT incident.
You have been involved in
managing an eLearning
program for a Part 121 air
carrier. What advantages does
Advanced Aircrew Academy
bring to an operator that you
did not have at the 121 air
carrier? One of the greatest
things about AAA is our ability
to respond rapidly to
regulatory changes or customer
requests and input. I can
change a module virtually in
minutes if I have to and
republish to a learning center.
For the tech nerds out there,
our eLearning uses HTML5

responsive web design, so each
page is independent of all the
others. The student does not
have to download an entire
module and can start and stop
as necessary. I didnt have that
much flexibility with my Part
121 eLearning.
How often are you making
updates to the modules you
are a subject matter expert for?
In my mind it is a continuous
revision process that NEVER
SEEMS TO END! In actuality,
the updates are usually based
on any new guidance from the
FAA / EASA, or some incident
that has occurred. I can never
seem to get my modules
exactly right which is a good
thing because it means Im
constantly looking at my
information to see if it is still
relevant or ways it can be
improved.

If you could live anywhere,
where would you pick and
why? I recently took a family
vacation to Yosemite National
Park and we came into the park
from the east side at about
10,000. One of the first vistas
we came across were the high
alpine meadows. The backdrop
of the mountain range, small
creeks running through the
area, and open meadows with
timber on the edges almost
made me quit my job, break out
an axe, and just live there, but
the park rangers would
probably disapprove. Also, the
zombies would freeze before
they got that high, so theres
that.
You attend NBAA BACE every
year. What do you see as the
biggest reason someone
should attend? I love going to
NBAA BACE! Once a year you
get to see people that youve
only communicated with via
email or text. There is a
tremendous advantage in being
able to see people, shake their
hands, network, and look at all
the displays. Personally, at the
2015 show I was able to get 3
questions answered from
different vendors in a fraction
of the time if I had been
emailing or calling them. Also,
where else can you get 300
different kinds of individually
sized hand sanitizers?
