This argument analysis will be examining the article Dead Penalty Losing Appeal by
Shad Saleem Faruqi . The author issue is that the death penalty should be lifted and let
the judges decide what is the appropriate punishment . The words shows such as penalty
, mandatory , Dangerous Drug Act are words that potray the tone used in the argument
are disproval and persuade where the author try to convince the government , law society
, society , educated people about how the death penalty should not be impose as the law
should be about protecting human and not killing them .

First the point of argument that author start with how the trend around the world to pull
out from the death penalty .To support his point ,the Second Optional Protocol which
aiming at the abolition of the death penalty is a side agreement to the International
Convenant on Civil and Political Rights but only 57 country signed .He(the author) also
gives statistic about country whos abolished death penalty and whos not .To strengthen
his point of view , the author according to Amnesty International about 87 countries and
territories have abolished the death penalty for all crimes . 11 countries have abolished it
for all but exceptional crimes such as war-time betrayals. 27 countries retain the death
penalty but not carried any execution for the past 10 years . However 71 other counties
including China , Iran , Saudi Arabia , US , Malaysia ,Singapore and more .Hence we can
conclude that 125 countries has ratified and 71 countries still retain the death
sentence. He said mandatory sentences somehow intervention with the judges
perspective in giving the punishment as they have to just in many aspect and society that
may affect by it . Next ,Sometimes even theres enough evidence to give death
punishment to someone . However , uncertainty of someone innocent to get such
punishment . The author support his point by in the US since 1973 , 123 prisoners have
been released after they were proved innoncent. They are mistakes or misjudge
throughout the process that finally caused them a heavy punishment (death penalty) . We
can imagined how many people that dindt get the right justice because of the mistake
throughout the process . Examples of mistake or misjudge are forced confessions , police
misconduct and unreliable witnesses. However he stated that the argument about death
sentenced is not fully support by scientific studies .Furthermore , he strengthen his point
with UN studies where there is no increase in crime for the countries who abolished death
penalty .However he does not stated further if there is decreasing in crime after the
countries .
..abolished death penalty . He also persuade the society to have firm principle against
violent crimes and must exact revenge .

To support the point of views given

The author generally appears to be inductive in his reasoning since he provides almost all
specific support and evidence to why the death penalty should be not imposed in laws
and there are some part of his arguments in this issue are deductive reasoning since he
didnt provides specific evidence to support his arguments for this issue. Paragraph IX
present an example of the deductive reasoning and paragraph III present an example of
the inductive reasoning where provides specific evidence for his argument in this issue.

As the conclusion, the authors argument is to abolished death sentences and hoping to
increase awareness to intended audience as stated in paragraph I.Besides ,death
penalty is barbaric from a moral, legal and ethical standpoint. In his argument shown is
quite good but does not get fully support . However , he managed to show us his some
validity and credibility through his argument .
