Difference between Logistics and Supply chain management:

SCM refers to the connection between suppliers and the ultimate consumer. It
evolved as an improvement over logistics.
Logistics is a portion of SCM. It deals with management of goods in an efficient way.

Definition of Logistics Management:


The process which integrates the movement of goods, services, information and
capital, right from the sourcing of raw materials, till it reaches its end consumer.
Everything has to be right here the product, time, place, price.
Two categories
Inbound Logistics: Concerned with procurement of materials, handling, storage and
transformation
Outbound Logistics: Concerned with the collection, maintenance and distribution or
delivery to the final customer.
Other activities: warehousing, protective packing, stock control, order fulfillment,
maintaining Supply/Demand balance, stock management.

Definition of SCM:
SCM has a multi-dimensional approach, which manages the flow of raw materials
and work in progress (semi-finished goods) within the organization and the end
product outside it till it reaches the hands of the final consumer. A series of
interconnected activities related to the transformation and movement from raw
materials to the finished goods till it reaches to the end user. It includes the efforts
of multiple organisations. They may include the firms that the organization is
currently working with like partners, suppliers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers
and consumers. The activities may include integration, sourcing, procurement,
production, testing, logistics, customer services, performance measurement.
