Unit Post-Assessment: Students will take and pass the 20 question quiz on Westward Expansion found at

Students will summarize peers journals in three different lengths.
Students will pick two of any of the culminating activities to demonstrate learning: Projects will be turned in at
the close of the Unit.
1. Change the ending to a historical fiction text relating to the topics covered under Westward Expansion.
2. Create a poster or cartoon depicting a Non-fiction text.
3. Find a recipe from the pioneer days and write an informational paper explaining how to make it. Bring in dish
to share.
4. Readers Theater: Read a text and write a script and perform. (Students may work with peers)
5. Create a crossword puzzle using information from the Unit.
6. Use technology to create a PowerPoint detailing the events of one of the topics discussed within the Unit.
7. Use technology to create a Bio cube pertaining to any of the topics discussed in the Unit found at
http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/student-interactives/cube-30057.html
8. Create a map of the United States during the time of the Westward Expansion. Map should include a scale of
miles and outline of States. It should also include the route that Lewis and Clark took as well as a revised route that
the student decides on.
9. Create a covered wagon out of household material (Ex: cardboard, plastic bottles, shoeboxes, fabric,
construction paper, etc.) The bonnet of the wagon must include pictures and captions of 4 major landmarks they
would have encountered on their journey.
10. Develop a timeline for the Unit including the description and illustrations of at least ten key events and dates.
Informal class and peer discussions about reading material and videos.
