3.0 Methodology

3.1 FEA - Model Fixities


The model has pinned boundary conditions at the spud cans. No other external restraints
were applied.

As stated in Section 2, the guides and rack chocks were modeled using rigid elements, or
spokes. Member end releases were provided to ensure that the correct direction of forces
are applied. For example, the upper and lower guides restrain the chords parallel to the rack
surface only. The rack chocks restrain the chords parallel to the rack surface as well as
vertically.
