NP Anne

The member was a little unnerved that neither his primary care
provider nor cardiologist noticed.
The member has atrial fibrillation and had a pacemaker implanted
in July. He also has a condition called GERD (a form of reflux).
What his PCP and cardiologist both overlooked, was his
medication for GERD decreased the effectiveness of his newly
prescribed medication, which protects against blood clots and
prevents plaque from adhering to his pacemaker.
I contacted his cardiologists office to report the situation. The
nurse said she would speak with the cardiologist and the
members PCP to look at changing the members GERD
medication.
While the member was unnerved, he was also very happy that I
caught the interaction.
