Secretary of State hosts great turnout for voting event

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Secretary of State Connie Lawson had a large
attendance of college students show up the voting information event at Ball
States L.A. Pittenger Student Center Ballroom on April 4. Emma Floit, Ball
States 2015 Homecoming Queen winner, served as the events
spokesperson, speaking about her experience with voting.
The event featured educational booths sponsored by political Ball State
organizations such as SGA, Pi Sigma Alpha honorary, College Republicans
and University Democrats that allowed college students to be educated by
their peers. Emma Floit shared her own insight on voting and invited other
students to come up and do the same. Secretary Lawson was also in
attendance to answer any questions the college students could have had
about voting.
We couldnt have been more lucky with the turnout from the event.
Seeing so many students interested in being educated about voting issues
was phenomenal, said Emma Floit.
This was the first year for a voting information event given by
Secretary Lawson to come to Ball States campus. Voting is becoming
something that college students are becoming less invested and concerned
with. Today, ages 18-24 year olds vote less than any other age group. No one
else is going to vote with college issues in mind besides college students, so
its time for them to become educated voters about the issues and the
impact they can make by voting.
