Pre Medical Guide

Course Requirements for Michigan Medical Schools

The following courses are either required by all Michigan medical schools or are highly recommended to take
prior to application to medical school. Note that some of these are not listed as required courses on the
schools websites but are included as embedded prerequisites to higher level courses listed. This document is
a GUIDE only. Students must consult with their Pre Professional Health Careers advisor AND the appropriate
medical schools on a regular basis for revisions to course requirements and to identify and ensure completion
of all required courses.

Each professional school has their own policy on whether or not to accept courses from Advanced Placement and
Community Colleges. Students must individually contact the schools to determine the requirements.

**Math is not an admission requirement at many medical schools. However, students preparing for medical school are
encouraged to complete MTH 114 (Trigonometry) or higher. Although any major is acceptable for professional school,
students majoring in the College of Natural Science must complete one semester of Calculus and a second semester of
Calculus or Statistics. See your major advisor regarding departmental requirements.
