Skyler has been an employee at the Waynesboro Family YMCA since the surnmer of 2014. She began as an aide in our school age department. | have had the privilege of watching her grow into an amazing teacher. She performed exceptionally well this summer as a lead for our rising 3° and 4" graders. She began a behavior reward system last summer that was welcomed by staff, parents and most importantly the children in her care. The children earned tickets for good behavior, being helpful, being a friend and more. They could use their tickets to buy gum for the day, Slurpee’s, lunch with a teacher, and (my personal favorite) pie the director on the last day of camp. She spent many of her lunch breaks with children who redeemed tickets, spent her personal funds on Slurpee’s and gum, and truly encouraged the children to make appropriate choices to earn tickets. ‘Skyler had a child in her group who was on the spectrum and she excelled at including him in every activity and | was honored to watch how she encouraged other children to do the same. She also had some very difficult children in her group. She remained patient and loving toward all her children despite the difficulties that arose. She was actively engaged with the children and encouraged reading and math skills throughout the summer. |lam excited to have her return this surnmer.
