Reading Strategies

1. Warm up your brain: look at titles, subtitles, pictures, and captions.

2. Make a prediction

3. Read the story once through to see what its about.

4. Highlight key words in the questions.

5. Reread with a pencil. Make notes as you read. What questions do you have?
What connections can you make? What are you picturing? Whats happening?

5. Answer the questions:

Process of Elimination for multiple choice.

Full sentences using evidence to support your answer for written responses.

6. Find your answers in the text and label them with the question number.
(Example: if the answer to question one is in the first sentence of the text, write
Q1 next to that sentence.

7. Check over your work.
