Dear Beach Middle School Hiring Committee,

As a parent with a child in the middle school and high school band programs, I am grateful for
the wonderful leadership and musical opportunities they have experienced. ln thinking about
the next Middle School Band Director, I believe the ideal candidate will be someone who truly
enjoys 11,-14 year olds, someone who is passionate about music, and most importantly,
someone who is able to inspire a love of music in children. The new director must also be a fun,
engaging, and enthusiastic teacher who compliments Rick Catherman and fully embraces his
vision for Chelsea Bands.

Because of the time I spent working with Katy Steklac during her high school years, I highly
recommend her for your consideration as the next Middle School Band Director. I witnessed
Katy embody all of the qualities listed above when I was the Director of Children's Ministries at
Chelsea First United Methodist Church. Katy regularly served as a volunteer leader for the
children's music and education programs. She led with passion and enthusiasm and made
music fun for all of the children in her care. Watching Katy inspire 4th and 5th grade boys to
enjoy singing and dancing at Vacation Bible Schoolwas impressive!

Throughout high school, Katy's musical talents, scholastic achievements and natural leadership
skills made her a wonderful role modelfor her peers as well as younger children in our
community. As a student of Rick Catherman, she is well-versed in his mission and goals for the
Chelsea Band Program. lt would be wonderfulto have Katy "come home" and lead the middle
schoolprogram.

Katy was also a well-loved babysitter for our family and many others in our church. I have
always found her to be trustworthy and nurturing. As a parent, she is the kind of person you
hope to have as an influence in your child's life.

I believe Katy would be a great addition to the exceptional Beach Middle School Staff. lf you
