Kindergarten Lesson Plan

Lyrics:

Objectives:
Students will pantomime to known song.
Students will internalize dynamics in body through movement.
Students will internalize tempo in body through movement.
Students will improvise their own movements using differing
dynamics/tempos and lead the class (i.e. Do as shes doing, follow
follow Linda, do as shes doing, follow follow Linda.)

Procedure:
1. Start right off singing with a simple motion included (No explanation
needed for the students. They know this song!)
2. Throughout the song, use motions that address fine/gross motor skills,
dynamic contrast, etc.
3. Let the students choose the motions for a few times through (Core
Practice #13)
4. Finish out with the motion of owl eyes

Objectives:
Students will experience singing in a minor key, and connect the final
lyrics with the melancholy nature of the key they are singing in.
Students will respectfully honor their peers contributions to the group
activity.
To support students vocabulary development through encouragement
of selection of uncommon animals and animal sounds.

Procedure:
1. Introduce this song by singing through it a few times, encouraging the
students to sing along, and mirror hand gestures.
2. Go through owl eyes, squirrel paws, crow wings, cat stretches and
cleaning, etc.
3. *ASK* Could someone tell me another animal that is in the tree?
(CHOOSE TWO OR THREE!) *It is only the first day doing this song,
dont let it become drawn out! Get in and out!*
4. *ASK* What sounds does that animal make?
5. After singing the students choices, finish the song out with, And the
poor old tree says, oh no
6. Talk about why the tree says that! (Core Practice #9)
7. If other students want to put other animals in the tree, quickly let each
student tell you the animal they want in the tree (without singing
through the song a million times.) Reassure he students that they will
sing this song more in the future, so keep those animals in their mind!
