They were both two young and vibrant leaders who stood the test during testing times. The IPP of JCI Coimbatore Metropolis and
the IPP of JCI Coimbatore Marutham are two unique personalities. They have their own personality and their own opinions by
which they stand tall and strong. Both of them have an engineering background and have had won laurels in Rotaract. They also
have a caring heart and they take responsibility very seriously. They have a lot in common including as small as initial to as big as
mutual respect for each other. The Double Take of this issue will feature 2016 Presidents Jc.Karthikeyan and Jc.Venkatesh who
share their observations on quite a few things , under the giant sun of JCI.
TRIBUTE Remembering Legends MARUTHAM ALAI February Issue Page 4
Jc.Sushil Vadakara is one of the most well known people among Jaycees in Coimbatore. He was a self made individual and gave
paramount importance in contributing to our society in one or more ways. He was the founder and backbone of JCI Coimbatore
Yuvabharath which has already created an impact among Jaycees in the Zone. To our utter shock, Jc.Sushil passed away just
three days after his 49th birthday (January 17, 2017) . A couple of tributes one from a friend who watched him with awe from a
distance and other is his daughter who grew under his matchless affection.

Victoria Town Hall is a landmark and was once the venue for public meetings, council meetings,
civic receptions and banquets in honour of celebrities visiting the city, including Mahatma Gandhi
and Rajaji.
Victoria Town Hall is a 6,000 sq.ft structure, which includes the 3,000 sq.ft. council hall and stands
on a 48-cent plot. It is in the central Big Bazaar Road of Coimbatore. Thanks to this monument, the
entire adjorning area is called Town Hall.
Victoria Town Hall was constructed in 1892 in honour of Queen Victoria. The then Coimbatore
municipality granted the land and Rs.3,000 for the construction of the hall in 1892 and the rest of
the money was donated by members of the Town Hall Committee (comprising prominent citizens
of the city)
Victoria Town Hall was restored during its 100th year (1992), thanks to the Indian National Trust
for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Coimbatore with the support of the Indian Chamber of
Commerce and Industry, at a cost of Rs.15 lakh.
Victoria Town Hall has an entrance porch with Gothic arches and a balcony. The foyer leads to
the assembly hall. The mezzanine floor is now used as a visitors' gallery for council meetings. The
historical structure has walls made of stone and lime and mortar, panelled shutters for windows,
and timber trusses with Mangalore tiles for roofing. A low-roofed corridor, with Tuscan type
stumpy columns, runs along three sides of the hall.
Victoria Town Hall was listed by INTACH as a heritage building in 1995.
