Lesson Plan: Net Ionic Review

A. Background Information
a. 10th-12th grade Chemistry class, 25 students per class, 45-50
minute class period.
B. Goals
a. Students will be able to write and balance a molecular equation, a
complete ionic equation, and then a net ionic equation.
C. Teacher Objectives/ Benchmarks
a. HS-PS1-1: Use the periodic table as a model to predict the
relative properties of elements based on electrons in the outermost energy level
of atoms.
b. HS-PS1-2: Construct and revise an explanation for the outcome of
a simple chemical reaction based on the outermost electron states of atoms,
trends in the periodic table, and knowledge of the patterns of chemical
properties.
c. HS-PS1-4: Develop a model to illustrate that the release or
absorption of energy from a chemical reaction system depends on the changes
in the total bond energy
d. HS-PS1-7: Use mathematical representations to support the claim
that atoms and therefore mass, are conserved during a chemical reaction
D. Teacher Preparation
a. Teacher Material: White Board and Worksheets
b. Student Material: Notebook, and writing material
E. Assessment Plan
a. Summative: Worksheets at the end of the topics to solidify
understanding
F. Differentiation:
a. Follow IEP and accommodations for students with special needs
b. Differentiate for class/group that is coming in
G. Instructional Plan
a. Intro/Bellwork (3 minutes)
i. Discuss the bell work with the class
ii. Make any announcements that need to be made
b. Review Net Ionic (15 minutes)
i. Examples
c. Group Work (20 minutes)
i. Students will be grouped by the teacher and then
given a worksheet to practice Net Ionic Equations
d. Check for Understanding (10 minutes)
i. Have the students come together and do a few of
the problems with them to make sure they are understanding their
homework
e. Closure (2minutes)
i. Remind students that worksheet is due
