To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this reference at the request of Melanie Ortiz, who is seeking employment
in the floral industry. I have Mel for two years in my capacity as a teacher at BCTC as a
horticulture student. Over the last two years, she has grown exponentially both in skill
and confidence. Based on Mels grades, attendance, and class participation, Id rate her
academic performance in my class as an above average hand on learner.

Mel has several strengths to offer an employer. She is always interested in helping
others and has taken initiative to improve her own skill set. Mel has worked several
weddings as my apprentice throughout the past year and she rose to the challenge.
Although she is still learning and can be hesitant, she gets the job accomplished. She
also helps keep the other designers in the class focused and on task and assists with
their level one challenges.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend Mel. If her performance in my class is any

indication of how shed perform in the industry, Mel will be an extremely positive
