    SCENE 1

    JACK is on his laptop sitting at a table in a


    closed room. KATIE enters.

    JACK
    Hey.

    She greets JACK with a forced smile and sits


    down. She takes out her laptop.

    KATIE
    How goes your...uh...your thing?

    JACK
    My thing?

    KATIE
    Yeah. Didnt you say you had a project or something that you were complaining about?

    JACK
    My moms surgery?

    KATIE
    Sure.

    JACK
    Yeah, went great. Do you have notes from class today?

    KATIE
    You didnt take them?

    JACK
    Why would I ask you for the...nevermind.

    A long pause.

    KATIE
    Wheres the rest of our group?

    No response.

    KATIE
    Wheres Henry?
    2.

    JACK
    I dont know. Maybe getting lunch.

    KATIE
    Ew. So annoying.

    JACK
    Yep.

    Katie goes on her phone for a little bit.

    KATIE
    Should we just get started.

    JACK
    I think Im going to get a snack from downstairs, but you knock yourself out.

    He exits.

    KATIE
    Asshole.
    (under her breath as she types on the
    computer)
    Asshole. Asshole. Asssssshooolleee.
    (sings softly)
    Asshooooollleeee.

    She checks the time and looks in her bag and


    pulls out a bag of cheez-its. It has one or two left
    that she pours into her mouth. She stares at the
    empty bag with a couple of cheez-its in her
    mouth.

    KATIE
    Goddammit.

    She exits.
