This past week the Emory and Henry College Volleyball Team competed in a pair games.

On
October 8th, the Wasps played conference foe Shenandoah and October 11th the Wasps competed
against Piedmont College. The game against Shenandoah was a thriller. The Wasps came out on
top winning three games to two. After being down most of the first game, the Wasps ended
game one on a 15-5 run to take a 1-0 lead. Shenandoah responded by winning game two. The
two teams traded blows yet again, with the Wasps winning game three and Shenandoah winning
game four. The match-deciding fifth set was the most competitive of all. After 12 ties in the
game, the Wasps found a victory by earning the last two points of the match, winning by a score
of 17-15. Junior Ali Singleton led the way for the Wasps with 19 kills while senior Tristen
Pennington had 13 kills. Sophomore setter Sam McCauley played a huge role in the match,
dishing out 27 assists. Also, senior libero Emily Hinshaw recorded 22 digs and threw in a pair of
aces. With the win, the Wasps improved their ODAC record to 3-3. The Wasps returned to
home Monday evening to take on Piedmont College. Although Mondays game was the annual
Dig Pink game, the Wasps struggled to thrive on the positive atmosphere. The Wasps were swept
by Piedmont, losing three games to none. The first game was close until the very end, with
Piedmont taking the first game. The Wasps jumped out to an early lead in the second game, but
a big scoring run by Piedmont prompted them to capture game two as well. After opening the
third game with a 4-4 tie, Piedmont scored 11 straight to take a 15-4 lead. The rest of the game
went back and forth, but it was too much for the Wasps to overcome. They lost the third game
25-16, giving the match to Piedmont College. Ali Singleton and Tristen Pennington led the way
for the Wasps yet again. Singleton dished out 11 kills while Pennington recorded nine kills.
Coming off this loss, the Wasps will be looking to bounce back. The Wasps will buzz back into
conference play this Friday as they travel to Roanoke College.
