Cleavage:

Cleavageisoftenmeasuredbythreefactors:
1)QualityofCleavage
2)NumberofSidesExhibitingCleavage
3)CleavageHabit
QualityofCleavage:
Qualityofcleavagecanbecategorizedintofivequalities:
Perfect
Good
Poor
Indiscernible(Indistinct)

Parting:
Partingischaracteristicallysimilartocleavage.Itiseasilyconfusedwithcleavage,anditmaybepresentonmineralsthatdo
notexhibitanycleavage.Therearetwocausesofparting:
1.Twoseparatepressurespushedtowardthecenterofacrystalafteritsformation,causingthecrystalinteriortoevenlydislodgeonaflat,

2.Twinnedcrystalsthatseparatedfromoneanother,leavingaflat,smoothplane.
