Audition Requirement For The 6months Course
The 6-Months Intensive is a 2 term course that will run from September 17 th 2012 through to February 27th
2013. Courses include: Reading, Music Theory (Melody, Harmony & Rhythm) Ear Training, Instrumental
performance techniques, Style Sequences for Jazz, Rock, Funk, Afro-Cuban, and selected Nigerian
styles, and Pro Rhythm Section.
Summary of Full-Time Admissions Information & Procedures for the 6 Months Intensive Program
APPLICATION FEE
Enrollment into the Six months intensive requires a non-refundable application fee of N5, 000. This is a
one-time only fee, which applies to all full-time program applications. The application fee can be paid to
the bank or at the Academys office at Banana Island Ikoyi, Lagos.
AUDITIONING
A live audition is required for this program. You may book for audition, by calling the admissions office on
0706xxxxxxx. Audition days are: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11am 3pm.
Please review the audition requirements on our audition requirements page. Available spots are limited;
therefore, it is recommended that you come in for your audition as soon as you can in order to get a spot.
PERSONAL EQUIPMENT
Drummers need only bring sticks, and Bassplayers should come with their instruments. It is
recommended that all students bring a personal metronome, headphones, and a recording device.
1. Technique: Single stroke roll, double stroke roll, paradiddles, flams and ratamacue - start each slowly
2. Styles: Maximum of two minutes for each example: rock - funk - swing - shuffle- reggae Salsa -
3. Reading: Your reading skills will be evaluated and rated on a level of 0-10 during the audition. (Note:
you will be placed in our integrated reading program based on the result of your evaluation by a faculty
member.)
To be performed solo, with or without a metronome. Remember that evenness is more important than
speed.
1. Technique:
-Play all major scales, two octaves, any sequence of keys.
-Play the three whole step-half steps diminished scales, two octaves, any sequence.
-Play all Maj7th, Dom7th, Min7th, Min7th (-5), Dim7th and Augmented triad, two octaves, any sequence.
2. Styles: Play each of the following styles for a minimum of two choruses (any chord progression); one
chorus playing the melody, and one improvising. Play at a comfortable tempo: rock - funk - swing - shuffle
- reggae Salsa - Ariaria - Fuji afrobeat - hip-hop 5/4.
3. Reading: Your reading skills will be evaluated and rated on a level of 0-10 during the audition. (Note:
you will be placed in our integrated reading program based on the result of your evaluation by a faculty
member.)
