Instructions for folding the Biomimicry Bugs using the glide reection method.

Place the paper template in the orientation shown in the

image. The top row should show a row of squares with
diagonal lines inside.
Run your hands over the paper to feel the score lines.
Make sure that the diagonal lines inside the squares feel like
little hills.

The long horizontal and vertical lines should feel like little
valleys.

The folding rules:

All long lines are folded down into valleys.
All diagonal lines are folded up into hills.
The small diagonal lines MUST NOT be folded beyond the squares.
The diagonal lines do not extend from edge to edge. They only occur inside the individual squares.
Make sure all your creases are very sharp and neat. This will help to form the glide reection pattern.
REMEMBER all long lines are folded down and all diagonal lines are folded up.
Using both hands, push the paper together to reveal the overall pattern. Each
row of squares is o-set by half. The squares intersect with each other as you
fold.
TIP: You can fold the paper from either side (diagonals up or down) if you prefer.
As you push the paper together, look for the diagonal lines forming small roof
shapes, or little mountains.

Support the structure underneath with one hand as you allow the paper to
naturally bend into a curved shape.
TIP: The paper will become tense in places when the lines are folded in the
wrong direction. You must follow the pattern of valleys and hills to release the
tension. This will feel springy under your ngers. You will need to tap the
tension out of the paper by poking the long lines down and the diagonal lines up
with your ngers as the pattern forms.
When all squares have been folded, the paper will
look like a small mountain range. Squeeze this
structure tight to save the pattern memory.

Form the completed pattern in to a rounded shape. This is the biomimetic

structure that completes the bug construction.

Attach the bug to a base or backing board with your own choice of fastener.
