My artwork was a mashup of Grant Wood's famous painting "American Gothic" where I replaced the pitchfork with a violin. I chose to add a violin because as a music student, our big school trip is approaching and the anticipation is inspiring. To create the piece, I traced the original painting, sketched and painted the violin, then placed it in the painting to modernize the iconic work. My artwork blends into the original through similar style and colors but also adds some contrast with brighter colors and texture differences to make the violin stand out more.

My artwork was mashed up with the well-known painting, American
Gothic, created by Grant Wood. I used this painting because its such an iconic piece. I grew up seeing it and always enjoyed seeing it be made to fit the time. Seeing it modernized was always fun and interesting. I chose to add a violin where the pitch fork would usually be because, the end of the school year is approaching, and our big school trip is coming up for all the music students. The anticipation and excitement is kicking in and it really inspired the violin. I thought it would add in interesting new modernized but old timey look/feel. To make the piece I used tracing paper, pencil, scissors, paper, paint, paint brushes and the original painting of American Gothic. I started by picking out the famous painting. Then I traced over the pitch for area and sketched out the body of the violin on the tracing paper. Following that I finished the sketches and other details of the violin then traced in on the light board on to normal white paper. After that I started painting. I mixed many colors to get the perfect mixed wood color. After it dried I cut it out and placed it on the painting and snapped a picture. My art work fits blend into this artwork because of similar art style and color scheme. However there is some contrast between my art and the original. There are a few bright colors, that add emphasis to the original. There is texture difference between the mans shirt and the violin. The violin piece stands out more because it is less faded, so it is more vibrant.
