Re: NY CD 23 – Republican Primary Survey – Executive Summary
Date: July 16th, 2010

McLaughlin & Associates conducted a survey of 300 likely Republican primary election voters
in New York’s 23rd Congressional District on July 14th, 2010. This poll shows Doug Hoffman is
perfectly situated to win the Republican primary election in September, 2010.

Conservative Republican Doug Hoffman Leads Matt Doheny in the Republican Primary:

● More than half the voters, 55%, say they would vote for the conservative Republican over the
moderate Republican in the generic Republican primary ballot. Doug Hoffman is that
conservative candidate, as the majority of voters, 54% identify Hoffman as conservative.

● The majority of Republican primary voters, 54%, are favorable to Doug Hoffman. Only 17%
are unfavorable.

● With less than 2 months until the Republican primary, and after a very heavy media buy, Matt
Doheny is still largely unknown to the electorate. Only 25% are favorable to Doheny. Sixty-
nine percent (69%) of the voters either have no opinion of Doheny (33%), or have never heard of
him (36%).

● On the ballot, among likely voters, even after Doheny’s large media buy, Doug Hoffman leads
Matt Doheny by 32-points. Doug Hoffman receives 52%, Doheny 20% and 28% are undecided.
Further, Hoffman’s lead increases, with key voter segments:

- Conservative voters: Hoffman + 43

- Voters who have an opinion of both candidates: Hoffman +13
- Voters who are favorable to both candidates: Hoffman +27

voters on July 14th, 2010 in New York Congressional District 23.

All interviews were conducted by professional interviewers via telephone. Interview selection
was at random within predetermined election units. These units were structured to statistically
correlate with actual voter distributions in a district-wide Republican primary election.

The accuracy of the sample of 300 likely general election voters is within +/- 5.7% at a 95%
confidence interval.
