UIndy Department of Communication

Student-Alumni Online Mentorship Program Proposal

Purpose
In an effort to connect alumni with current UIndy Department of Communication

students, we drafted an idea to create an online mentorship program. An online mentorship

program would allow students the opportunity to create relationships with alumni from different

class years, backgrounds and industries who are located all over the world. Both mentors and

mentees would have one important thing in common their choice of university thus the

advice provided from mentor to mentee would carry significant weight.

Mentees

Have someone guaranteed to give them insight and wisdom about college-life and

specific situations pertaining to the UIndy Department of Communication

Learn how to converse and eventually create a relationship with an unfamiliar person that

was previously in their position

Receive exclusive internship/job information from their mentor that is relevant to their

future interests

Mentors

Serve as a valuable resources for any questions that are Communication-related,

internship/job-related or even life-related

Have the opportunity to remain actively involved with the Communication department

and the current students of their alma mater

Broaden the mentees network even further by connecting them with their fellow

colleagues

Assist a student in the professional development that occurs during college

Expectations

Once mentees sign up for the program, they must be actively involved in reaching out to

mentors that they believe have similar history, experiences, and/or interest

Mutual communication that is timely, respectful, and informative

Have regular contacts between the two parties (ie: 3-4 times throughout the semester)

Help both mentors and mentees set goals and strive to reach them

Format

There is a mentorship software called Chronus that is specifically set up for

mentor/mentee engagement

o Must contact software company for pricing but all of the intended goals of the

program could be met through Chronus

A specific Facebook group could be implemented for the program in an invite only

format
