Who is the real monster in the novel? Is it the creator or his creation?
How do you know when your ambition is no longer considered healthy?
How can someones lack of morality affect so many people?
Why are human basic needs important in shaping the person you become? (Think of Maslows hierarchy of needs: Self-actualization, esteem,
love/belonging, safety, and physiological).

Unit Summary:
In this unit students will be introduced to Gothic Victorian literature, starting with Mary Shelleys classic novel Frankenstein. Shelleys famous novel was written
during the literary movement of Romanticism. Romanticism was a movement in the late 18th century; it allowed writers, musicians, and artists to really express
themselves. They encouraged freedom of emotion, imagination, and were against social conventions. A perfect example of this movement is Frankenstein. In this
unit students will be able to explore a much darker side of literature; they will be able to take a journey through Shelleys imagination. This unit will focus on
analyzing different characters moralities, and identifying the various themes in the novel. We will also discuss how ambition and revenge can deeply affect the
lives of others.
