Interview Report on Weeding
My media specialist expressed that at the beginning of her
career she struggled weeding out books that were out dated. The state regulations require that any book older than 1985 be removed from off the shelves. Many of those books were her favorite. She then noticed that those books were in poor physical condition and werent being checked out. She agreed to begin weeding them out. The districts automated media system provider, Alexandria, helps to access the information of each book, how often it is checked out etc When the paper book covers are damaged she takes them off and uses the plain cover. Library Bound books seem to have the best quality of paper and covers tend to be bright. Weeding old books makes room for new books and the district makes every effort to share information about new books with the specialists. They send them to literature workshops and have monthly meeting to share new book information.
