Supercomputer Usage Instructions

Application for a CISV Computer Account on SGI Altix machine

1. Fill out the form available at

Description of Research
My senior design project is to create a CFD model using Fluent of . This will
be impossible without the use of the parallel processor machine due to the
magnitude of the problem. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have

Operational Instructions

1. If you are accessing from Windows, install CYGWIN X. Take special care that
all the X11 components are installed.
2. Download Putty.exe
3. Start the cygwin batch file startserverx.bat [this file can be found in the becat
website]
4. Run Putty
5. Check the "X11 forwarding" option in putty. Specify the server address as
"sgi1.engr.uconn.edu".
6. Log in with your engr account
7. Type the following command for fluent "fluent 2ddp -tx" where x denotes the
number of processors. For 3d use "fluent 3ddp -tx"
