Section A: Directed Writing

Your penfriend in Australia wants to know about the religious practices in your country. Write a letter to
him or her to describe the different religious groups and their practices in Malaysia.

Use the following notes to write your letter.

Buddhists
observe first and fifteenth days in lunar calendar
offer prayers to Buddha
fast or observe vegetarian diet

Hindus
celebrate Thaipusam and Deepavali
go through the ritual of praying
each day, light a lamp at the altar

Muslims
males attend prayers at the mosque on Fridays
males and females pray five times a day
fast during fasting month before Hari Raya

Christians
attend church on weekends
celebrate Christmas every year

When writing your letter, you should remember to:

use the informal letter format
use all the notes given
end the letter by signing your name
