ABSTRACT

This research has tried to investigate the root causes of the fail
ure of the projects and have attempted to classify them in various ways. The con
tribution of this research is summarized in terms of the design and development
of the conceptual model called Effective Data Quality Management System; the val
idation of this model by industry experts, and its refinement into a conceptual
solution and the development of a systematic methodology for successfully implem
enting the conceptual solution. The result of this is a quality model that descr
ibes multiple facets of process quality, and quality for software engineering pr
ocesses that is based on multiple industry and academic perspectives. By followi
ng this methodology, the projects are expected to have a considerably increased
potential for success, and would be alerted of problems throughout the life of t
he project. There have been many studies to understand the factors contribute to
failure of the projects, but what can be done to avoid the failure rate of the
projects there is little evidence of research.
This thesis outlines the causes for the failure of software proje
cts, attempts making practitioners think about on how to approach this endeavor
so as to minimize the chances of failure and improve the quality of project.
