Pedagogies Assignment Reflection

For this assignment I wanted to do something that would be enjoyable and insightful. I

knew that I wanted to incorporate race into the assignment, but I also wanted it to be connected

to something that would make students think outside of the box a little. That is why I came up

with the idea of watching Pleasantville and pairing it with the questions related to past and

present day race issues. My goal was to have students use what seems like a regular film and

open their minds to the possibility that the film had a deeper meaning than what was expected.

By watching the movie and answering the questions myself I was able to think about and discuss

gender roles, education in relation to the banking system and how race can be viewed through a

different lens, where its not just black and white (no pun intended).
